Let Advent Be Advent – The Sacred Heart Messenger

Let Advent be Advent Vincent Sherlock

This season of  Advent calls to us to prepare a room for the Lord so that he may truly be welcomed into our hearts and allowed grow from the newborn child into the one who walked the way marked out for him and, on that walk called (and still calls) others to join him.

In this collection of daily reflections, some of the days coincide with the Liturgy of the day and borrow from the Scripture passages used on those days at Mass.  Other days are not linked with Scripture and, even where they are, the passage may well not correspond with the Church’s chosen passages. Some of the thoughts are random reflections that might help you think around the script of your own life and place on the Christian journey, others are developed from a scriptural starting point.

Vincent Sherlock is Parish Priest of Kilmovee, Co Mayo and Diocesan Secretary and Communications Officer in the Diocese of Achonry. Most of his ministry has been in parish and retreat work and he contributes homily thoughts and reflections to various publications such as Intercom, The Furrow and The Sacred Heart Messenger.

  • Note:

Even if you don’t get around to using this pamphlet, it is well worthwhile keeping the title in mind and heart during Advent because so many of the opportunities of this most beautiful season of the Church’s year get lost in the hectic pace of day-to-day living.

Sometimes the way we live this season can work against the kind of alertness that is necessary, whereas taking time for prayerful and silent waiting will enhance that alertness. So, let us make an effort to let Advent really be Advent this year!
