Leave the Dandelions for the Bumblebees, Other Insects and Small Birds

Richard Smyth (The Guardian Country Diary, April 3, 2021) wrote an article, “Mining Bees are Getting down to Business”, in which he said there are some 270 species of bees while many claim that bees are getting scarce, a fact that should trouble all of us.

Apparently, dandelions are a superfood for bees and householders should allow these wildflowers a chance to grow. Allowing them to grow on our lawns and in our gardens should not be seen as a sign of neglect or laziness, rather a sign that the householder is helping the survival of our endangered bumblebees and wild solitary bees.
